Urvashi Upadhyay, MD
Urvashi M. Upadhyay, MD is resident in the Department of Neurosurgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
She began her career in the neurosciences as an undergraduate at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she participated in basic science research in basal ganglia electrophysiology and the neurobiology of learning and memory in the Graybiel Laboratory. At MIT, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and was the 2002 recipient of the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Award for Outstanding Scholarship. As a medical student, working with Dr. Henry Brem at Johns Hopkins University, she further pursued her interests in the neurosciences with clinical work in neurology and neurosurgery and research in novel treatment approaches to malignant brain tumor treatment. As a neurosurgery resident, she is currently collaborating with colleagues at MIT in the Cima and Langer Laboratories, where devices for local chemotherapy delivery, as well as early detection of tumor responses to therapy, are being designed and tested. Throughout her young career, she has honed her keen interest in clinical neurosurgery and through her dedication to research, has sought out novel approaches to the treatment of brain tumors.
