Meningioma Center Celebrates Expanded Location
The Brain Science Foundation recently celebrated the opening of an expanded Meningioma Center of Excellence at the Neurosurgery Clinic and Brain Science Foundation Resource Center at Brigham & Women's Hospital.

BSF interest and support has had a major effect on enhancing meningioma and other brain tumor patient care at Brigham & Women's Hospital. The encounter of a patient with the medical care system is often fragmented, inefficient, and sometimes unsatisfactory today because of poor communication and outmoded ways of transmitting information.

The Brain Science Foundation initially supported a one-year project to develop the concept of the optimum patient encounter – an encounter that will be patient-friendly and information-rich. The BSF’s initial concept and financial support to remodel the neurosurgery patient care clinic at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital was embraced by the Hospital as it recently opened, for the second time, a much enlarged and upgraded Neurosurgery Clinic on the Nesson Pike adjacent to the Neurology Department.

The new suite boasts state-of-the-art equipment, comfortable examination and consult rooms and houses a physician workroom to foster multidisciplinary collaboration and teaching. This patient centered facility includes the Brain Science Foundation Resource Center where patients and their advocates can take advantage of computers with desktop information about primary brain tumors as well as many links to a vast array of information resources on brain tumors. In addition, all BSF sponsored educational materials, magazines, videos, CDs, etc. are available for patients and their families, caregivers and advocates to view immediately and take with them.
