BSF Supporter Initiates Donor Challenge with Gift of 100 Copies of “Living with a Brain Tumor”
Dr. Peter Black’s Latest Book at the Heart of Brain Science Foundation Campaign
Brai
n Science Foundation (BSF) supporter and meningioma survivor Barbara F. Bass, Ph.D., has donated 100 copies of “Living with a Brain Tumor, Dr. Peter Black’s Guide to Taking Control of Your Treatment” to the BSF in an effort to challenge potential donors to support the Foundation at a higher level of giving. By donating the latest book by BSF Medical Advisor Dr. Peter Black, Barbara hopes to help focus attention on the Foundation’s work as well as Dr. Black’s Guide, both of which she considers to be of major importance in the fight against primary brain tumors and in the education and support of those whose lives have been impacted by these tumors, including patients, their families, caregivers and friends.
Barbara so strongly believes brain tumor patients will find hope and support in both the work of the Brain Science Foundation and the book, "Living with a Brain Tumor," that she has requested that her donation go toward marrying these two resources through a BSF campaign that will provide donors of $200 or more with a copy of "Living With a Brain Tumor," signed by Dr. Peter Black. All proceeds will go directly to the BSF to fund research into the cause of primary brain tumors, such as meningioma, their early identification, epidemiology and treatment.
Diagnosed 3 years ago during the early years of the Brain Science Foundation, Barbara did not have an organization to turn to for in-depth insight into meningioma research and education. And for Barbara, an environmental consultant who was trained as a toxicologist, research into better screening, treatment and prevention of these primary brain tumors is of paramount importance. Nor did Barbara find a resource as comprehensive and "patient oriented" as "Living with a Brain Tumor" to help guide her progress along a difficult journey through diagnosis.
Barbara hopes that her latest donation to the BSF will help the Foundation increase attention to the necessity of these types of tools and resources in empowering patients as they face their own personal journeys.
“Barbara has found a creative way to champion the fight against meningioma as part of a personal commitment to 'give back' for all of the progress she has made since she was first diagnosed. A 3-year survivor of a brain tumor that will affect at least 13,000 more Americans this year, Barbara’s commitment to help drive meningioma research and provide patients and survivors with the tools they need to win their own battles is greatly appreciated by the Brain Science Foundation. We hope that all of those inspired by Barbara’s belief that research is the key to providing hope for all brain tumor patients will support this campaign,” said Kristin O’Sullivan, Executive Director of the Brain Science Foundation.
