BSF to Lead Unprecedented Collaboration Between Brain Tumor Science and Support at the 2007 International Conference on Glioma Research and Therapy
August 2007 - The BSF is proud to announce its support of and leading role in the official launch of B.R.A.I.N (Brain Research Academy International for Neoplasia), an unprecedented collaboration of the scientific and philanthropic sectors focused on more effectively and comprehensively identifying the causes of and treatments for tumors of the nervous system and promoting brain tumor awareness on a national and international scale. This inaugural meeting will occur concurrent with the 2007 International Glioma Conference to be held from October 10-13, 2007, at the Boston Marriott Copley Place in Boston, Massachusetts.
As an honorific organization composed of leading brain tumor researchers and philanthropic organizations, B.R.A.I.N. will function as a “think tank with an effector’s arm” to collaboratively develop new directions and initiatives in brain tumor research and public awareness and advocacy in a way that enhances the individual missions of each component. A distinguishing characteristic of BRAIN is that for the first time, it will provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange perspectives with philanthropic organizations working on brain tumor research and advocacy.
The BSF’s role in this critical initiative will include convening a panel discussion at the conference (on October 12th), which will allow for the philanthropic and scientific communities to engage in a dialogue of how to best to work together to have the greatest impact on brain tumor research, quality of life issues and to elevate brain tumors on the national health agenda. Following the panel, the BSF will host an exclusive dinner at Belle Mer in Newport, RI for B.R.A.I.N. members, who have been selected based on a record of significant contributions to the field of brain tumor research and advocacy. B.R.A.I.N. is scheduled to convene annually, with the next meeting to take place at the 6th International Congress on Meningioma and Cerebral Venous System, September 4-7, 2008.
