Dr. Patrick Wen Discusses the Promising Role of Targeted Molecular Therapies for Recurrent Meningioma in Latest Issue of Neurosurgical Focus

BSF PI Dr. Patrick Wen, Director of the Neuro-Oncology Division at the Brigham and Women's Hospital, discusses the promising role of targeted molecular therapies for recurrent meningioma in latest issue of Neurosurgical Focus.

In "Targeting Drug Therapy for Meningioma," Dr. Wen points out that despite advances in surgery, radiation therapy and radiosurgery, there remains a small but important subset of patients with recurrent meningiomas who do not respond to conventional therapies. Chemotherapies have minimal activity and hormonal therapies have proven to be largely ineffective.

Dr. Wen suggests that the significant experience acquired with targeted molecular agents for systemic cancers and malignant gliomas could potentially be translated into effective strategies for meningiomas. Finally, he discusses how these novel therapies may complement the traditional approaches and lead to more effective treatment for patients with meningiomas.
