Kim Chrane, a friend to the Brain Science Foundation and other numerous brain tumor and cancer communities, lost her battle with meningioma on Friday, March 6, 2009. She was just two weeks shy of her 44th birthday. Kim fought her illness with the same spirit and determination that characterized her adventures in the great outdoors and enthusiasm for life. Diagnosed at age 26, Kim was a strong voice and advocate for meningioma awareness and improved treatments and therapies for all primary brain tumors.
In 2006, Kim joined the BSF’s Meningioma Project and shared her story. Despite her difficult journey, which included seven intensive brain tumor surgeries, radiation treatments, and a variety of related medical issues, Kim’s focus was always on inspiring others; did she ever. Kim went “big” with all of her efforts to draw attention to meningioma, becoming a LiveStrong Army leader for the Lance Armstrong Society and leading countless events and activities to support and bring together patients and survivors.
The Brain Science Foundation and Neurosurgery faculty and staff at Brigham and Women’s Hospital are deeply saddened by Kim’s passing, but through her example and because of her courage, as well as that of so many other patients and survivors, we continue to grow our efforts to yield research results that promise to impact patients’ lives and escalate the battle to cure this disease.
