BSF Principal Investigator Elizabeth Claus, PhD, MD and the Meningioma Consortium to Launch First-Ever Genome-Wide Association Study of Meningioma

BSF Constituents Eligible to Register for Study at Meningioma Awareness Day 2010

The Meningioma Consortium, a nationwide consortium of researchers of meningioma, under the direction of longtime BSF Collaborator Elizabeth Claus, PhD, MD, will begin the first ever “Genome-Wide Association Study of Meningioma”.  The project will involve over 2,000 meningioma patients and 6,000 control subjects in an effort to pinpoint the genetic origins of the disease.  The study has received widespread recognition, including funding by the National Institutes of Health.

“This is the first effort to perform a genome-wide association study of meningioma,” said Claus.  “As these studies require extremely large numbers of persons to achieve statistical power, we will be opening our enrollment to patients beyond our ongoing population-based meningioma studies, allowing us to include meningioma patients worldwide.”

The Brain Science Foundation is pleased to announce that constituents will have an opportunity to learn more about and enroll in the study on October 2, 2010 at Meningioma Awareness Day.  Representatives from the Meningioma Consortium will be on hand throughout the day at the Joseph B. Martin Conference Center at Harvard Medical School to communicate details of the study and enroll participants.
